CT Scan

The CT combines the use of x-rays with computers to produce images that allow physicians to look inside a patient’s body.

A CT scan produces clear, extremely detailed pictures of the body’s internal structures (colon, lung, heart, vessels) in a series of thin slices. The CT can differentiate bone from muscle and fat in the part of the body being examined.

Be Prepared

Preparation For Procedure

Your doctor will advise fasting for four to six hours prior to your exam. Some abdominal exams may also require that you fast before the exam to ensure the best possible images. Be sure to clarify preparations such as these with your doctor in advance.

CT scans, like other X-rays, are monitored and regulated to provide the minimum amount of radiation exposure. X-rays themselves are painless. Women who are pregnant, however, should not undergo X-ray procedures, as there are risks to the fetus. It’s important to discuss any allergies, medications and existing conditions with your doctor before undergoing any type of diagnostic exam.

The High Tech imaging center has been awarded accreditation after a comprehensive review performed by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This certification confirms that our center meets rigorous standards for practice in CT. We pride ourselves on delivering among the safest CT Scans in Alabama.

Dont be Surprised!

What to Expect during the Exam

This machine creates images with computer x-ray sensing unit that shows detailed images of bones and soft tissue with precision. Our CT scan is used to study the brain, abdomen, chest, pelvis, etc. Our CT scan is a completely harmless procedure as we use the lowest amount of radiation without compromising unmistakable images. Procedures are short and we see to it that each patient is comfortable with the process.

We Will Take Care of The Rest!

What About the Results?

Some CT studies require a contrast agent to enhance the pictures that are taken of your body. You will receive special instructions if your exam requires you to consume an oral contrast agent (barium sulfate) in advance. Certain studies may require you to have an IV Contrast (iodine injection).

When your exam is complete you may leave and resume regular activities. If a sedative is administered for your exam you will need to arrange transportation home.

A radiologist will review your exam images and report the findings to your doctor within 24 hours. Your doctor will then discuss the findings and next steps with you.

What is it?

What is a CT Scan?

A CT or CAT scan is a noninvasive, painless medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

CT Imaging is:

  • one of the best tools for studying the chest and abdomen because it provides detailed, cross-sectional views of all types of tissue.
  • often the preferred method for diagnosing many different cancers, including lung, liver and pancreatic cancer, since the image allows a physician to confirm the presence of a tumor and measure its size, precise location and the extent of the tumor’s involvement with other nearby tissue.
  • invaluable in diagnosing and treating spinal problems and injuries to the hands, feet and other skeletal structures because it can clearly show even very small bones as well as surrounding tissues such as muscle and blood vessels.
  • an examination that plays a significant role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases that can lead to stroke, kidney failure or even death.

High Tech Imaging Center is an independent medical imaging facility conveniently located just off I-85 at Forest Avenue, across from CVS Pharmacy and inside Neuro Spine Institute.
